My daughter is concerned because of her newly formed anatomy. She is fourteen and a half years old and her body is changing daily. She has started to form breast buds and she has quite a bit of hair around her vulva. The thing that concerns her the most is her clitoris is hanging out beyond her vulva.

She is concerned that she may have stimulated it too much as a child and maybe did some damage. I have never heard of this condition, but I tried to assure her that she is fine. She on the other hand is not comforted and wants to know exactly what is going on. I started looking on the internet for information when I found your website. Please advise

It's possible that is not her clitoris hanging out beyond her vulva's outer lips, but rather her inner lips. This type of vulva is the most common according to the years I've observed them, well over a thousand. Please look at the drawings of vulvas in my book "Sex for One," which by the way, I tell my story of being afraid I was genitally deformed. Like your daughter, I was convinced I'd stretched my inner lips from too much childhood masturbation. Believe me, a picture in this case will be worth a thousand words. She will see she is perfectly normal. If it is her clitoris, then she simply has a proud sex organ. Hormones and genetics have control over clitoris and penis size.
